Allahabad, 2017.06.17 (Vinod Khanali, TNN): Books on rare literature in Bhojpuri, Braj and Awadhi dialects will soon hit the shelves, much to the joy of literature lovers.
The 90-year-old Hindustani Akademi, the state government’s institution established to promote Urdu and Hindi literature, has begun publishing rare literary compositions to promote these dialects.
The step has been taken on the directives of the chief minister to popularise regional languages, say authorities. The Akademi has also encouraged writers of eastern, western and central UP to write in regional languages. The books lined up for publication focus on literature of eastern, western and central UP.
Some of the out-of-print books being published are ‘Brajbhasha’, ‘Bhojpuri Lokgatha’, ‘Awadhi Ka Vikas’ and ‘Agra Zile Ki Boli’, among others. The books may benefit research scholars and organisations working for preservation of the dialects.
“These books will soon be available in the market,” Hindustani Akademi treasurer Ravinandan Singh said. The institution is running without any secretary.
Doyens of Hindi and Urdu literatures such as Mahadevi Verma, Sumitranandan Pant, Suryakant Tripathi Nirala, Firaq Gorakhpuri, Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Faiz Ahmad Faiz were once associated with the akademi which was established in January 1927. After Independence, the state government took over the institution.
