Mathura, 2017.06.19 (Arvind Chauhani, The Times of India): A woman, who was allegedly speaking on her mobile phone while crossing the railway track, was fatally knocked down in Mathura on Sunday.

The incident took place near Bhuteshwar railway station Sunday afternoon. Identified as Rakhee Katara, a resident of the Goverdhan area, the victim was crossing the railway track to board a bus at Mathura ISBT when a locomotive engine hit her causing severe rupture and fracture in her skull which resulted in her instant death.

The 35-year-old victim’s body has been sent for post-mortem.

According to an eyewitness, the victim’s phone cracked following the accident and when the police reached the spot to recover the body, they took out SIM card from her dismantled phone and retrieved contact to inform the relatives.

Though police did not confirm whether the victim was talking over the phone at the time of the accident, Krishnanagar police outpost in-charge Sub-inspector Vinod Mishra said, “I cannot confirm if the woman was on phone or not. Her head was fractured in the impact when the side railing of locomotive hit her when she was crossing the track.”

On June 8, three persons were run over at Mathura Junction and near Bhuteshwar railway station including a 17-year-old who allegedly jumped in front of a train after failing in board exam.
