Agra, 2017.10.03 (Arvind Chauhan, TNN): Even after the CAG rapped the railway for bad quality of food citing it ‘unfit for human consumption’ in its audit report tabled to a parliamentary committee in July, it seems that the railways have not learned their lesson. Fungus and worms were found in snacks at a railway-authorised restaurant at Mathura junction.
The matter came to light after a video of the pungent-smelling rotten patties was shared to the railway ministry’s twitter handle by a group of boys, who had purchased the snack from platform-number-one-based Krishna Eatery on Sunday afternoon while heading home.
According to the complaint lodged by the four youths identified as Abhishek Jindal, Ankur Mittal, Ashish Goyal and Shobhit of New Panchwati colony, Ghaziabad, “We bought four patties from the railway-authorised food eatery. But they were infested by fungus and had small worms.”
Speaking to TOI on the phone, Abhishek Jindal said, “One of my friends vomited after eating the patties and fell ill. When we checked our snacks, we found grown fungus and worms in it, after which we informed the railway protection force, who merely lodged our complaint. Later, a food inspector of the railway called me and enquired about the incident, which I narrated to him, but still no action was taken. Later I tweeted the video of the incident.”
Responding to Abhishek’s video tweet, the railway ministry twitter handle forwarded the matter to the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Agra.
Sanchit Tyagi, the divisional commercial manager of Agra division said, “The eatery owned by H.D. Son’s have been levied a hefty cash penalty and have been given an ultimatum to improve its food quality standard, or their license will be revoked.”
