Vrindavan, 2015.12.14: A Collective mass marriage ceremony, arranged by the social organization Ananda Lok from Kolkata at the Hazarimal Somani Inter College playground, of various castes was conducted for 109 couples who were blessed by saints, religious heads, and politicians.
The marriage rites were successfully performed for all 109 newlyweds. The organizers had erected separate marriage tents for each couple. Each was also given a television, cupboard, vessels, clothes, and makeup kits.
BJP President Lakshmikant Vajpayee said that such events enhance the unity and strength of the people within society and also helps the underprivileged. He added that such events must happen frequently.
Well known tantric Chandraswami said that to get poor girls married off is act of piety and such functions must be organized everywhere.
The brides and grooms wedded came from such poor backgrounds that they could not even afford to pay rent. Keeping in mind such a circumstance, all necessary items were provided to all of them.
