Vrindavan, 2017.11.22 (VT): Under immense pressure from the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and the Allahabad High Court, officials are turning their attention towards Mathura’s sewage treatment plants. Reports say that the holy city’s STPs are beginning to increase the amount of sewage processed each day.
The current sewage treatment facilities in Mathura and Vrindavan are quite dated. The system is sorely in need of renovation, and new STPs need to be built in both areas.
Till recently, only one of the four pumps at Masani Pumping Station was operational. Now officials have started a second pump. Pipeline leaks were expected when the second pump was turned on, yet mirculously the pipes are holding up so far.
Pumping capacity has also been increased at the Bengali Ghat and Dariy Farm plants. Some pending issues with the Bengali Ghat plant have been rectified, and reportedly, it is not dumping sewage into the Yamuna River at present. However, sewage is still falling into the river from the Dairy Farm STP.
The sewage processing situation in Mathura Vrindavan has a long way to go, but residents are pleased that at least some progress is being made. Hopefully these efforts will continue after the Municipal elections on November 26th.
