Vrindavan, 2017.12.30 (VT) Residents in 8 colonies developed by the MVDA are breathing a sigh of relief as the Municipal Corporation has agreed to take over the provision of electricity, water and maintenance of roads.

Residents of the MVDA colonies became worried when it was announced that the Mathura-Vrindavan Development Authority (MVDA) had made plans to stop providing basic services to the colonies from 1st January.

Upon hearing the decision, Resident Welfare committees were formed and a delegation petitioned MLA member Mr Srikant Sharma to ensure that there was no gap in the provision of services in the colonies.

On Thursday, the Mathura-Vrindavan Municipal Corporation (Nagar Nigam) agreed to take over the provision of services in the colonies. MVDA secretary, Ramesh Chand said that residents have nothing to worry about, the Municipal Corporation will continue the provision of street lighting and water and will also attend to the roads in the colonies that need fixing.

Around 10 years ago, the MVDA plotted out 8 new colonies to house Vrindavan’s increasing population. These colonies are known as: Chaitanya Vihar Phase 1 and 2, Kailash Nagar, Sudampuri, Kadam Bihar, Krishna Vihar, Radha Puram and Radha Puram Estate.

While the colonies were in the developmental phase, the MVDA directly administered their services, however, providing services to the colonies was causing a financial drain on the Development Authority (MVDA), so, it was decided that the colonies are well enough developed to be administered by the Municipal Corporation.
