Eternal friendship of Yamuna and Krishna to be explored by Bharatnatyam soloists

Vrindavan, 2017.01.01 (VT): A group of 3  Bharatanatyam soloists, who are dedicated to the promotion and development of dance as a devotional offering, will perform in the temple town of Vrindavan. The troupe, known as Trayi, will be performing in Jaipur on 19^th February, and will extend their tour to Vrindavan in the following days. The venue and date are yet to be confirmed.

Trayi is currently performing ‘Sakhyam’, a production which explores the ‘eternal friendship’ between Sri Krishna and the Yamuna. Trayi is made up of three soloist dancers, Anuradha Venkataraman,  Radhika Ramanujan and Ramaa Venugopalan, each of whom has over 10 years professional dance experience.

Anuradha Venkataraman currently teaches dance in North Bangalore. She is an impaneled artist with the Indian Centre for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and has taught Bharatanatyam in Korea and the US. She is a Grade-A Doordarshan artist and researches the history of Bharatanatyam dance. She has been a professional dancer for over 20 years.

Radhika Ramanujan has performed in the most prestigious festivals around the country, including Dehli International Art Festival. She is known for her brilliant portrayal of Sri Krishna’s avatars. She is a volunteer at the Ananya Cultural Academy and has her own dance school.

Ramaa Venugopalan has been a professional dancer for 2 decades. She is a strong believer in the traditional forms of Bharatanatyam which form a ‘vocabulary’ that allows dancers to express subtle emotions with clarity and intensity. She is a strong believer in the versatility of Bharatanatyam and the dance’s ability to express profound devotion, surrender and joy.  She is an impaneled artist with ICCR and holds a MA in Bharatanatyam dance.

Bharatanatyam is thought to be one of the oldest forms of Indian dance. It is described in the ancient Sanskrit text Natya Shastra, by Bharata Muni.
