Vasant Panchami marks the beginning of Holi in Braj

Vrindavan, 2018.01.18 (VT) Visitors are to Banke Bihari temple on Vasant Panchami (22nd January) will get showered in colour as the Holi festivities get under way in Bihariji temple from Vasant Panchami, the day that is said to mark the beginning of the end of winter. Bihariji will have colour put on Him during the sringar aarti at 9am and then will start throwing colour onto visitors.

In other temples around Braj, Holi also begins from Vasant Panchami with special Holi bhajans and performances. Rakesh Tiwari from Mathura’s  Dwarkadhish temple, said that there is a 40-day Holi in Braj, with the festivities starting from Vasant Panchami.

Kapil Sharma, secretary of Sri Krishna Janma Bhoomi Seva Sansthan says that, on Vasant Panchami, yellow colour will be offered to Thakurji. Radha Ramanji will wear a garland made of the small yellow mustard seed flowers that cover the fields of Braj at this time of year.
