Mathura, 2018.02.14 (VT) Hema Malini has cancelled the planned ‘Holi Cultural festival’, which was to be held on the banks of the Yamuna. Malini had gathered a long list of big names to perform at the event and was organizing the funding for the event, which would have promoted Mathura’s Ghats as historical and pilgrimage sites.

This two day event was to be held on February 23rd and 24th across the Yamuna from the famous Vishram Ghat, where Sri Krishna rested after killing Kamsa. Classical singer, Pandit Jasraj; flautist Hariprasad Chaurasia, playback singer Kailash Kher,  Classical-folk singer Malini Awasthi and dancer-actor Shobhana Seth had agreed to perform at the festival and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was to attend the event.

The festival was to be held on the banks of the Yamuna at Mathura on land owned by Mathur Chaturved Parishad, however the group refused to give permission and instead filed an objection in the National Green Tribunal saying that the program would damage the natural environment of the riverfront.

On Monday, Malini wrote to the District Magistrate asking to withdraw the application for permission to hold the program.
