Mathura, 2018.02.18 (VT) Seeing the difficulties faced by elderly mothers in getting medicines, two NGOs are starting a delivery service to relieve them of the tension of worrying about how to get to a medical store.
The free of cost medicine delivery service will be organized by Narottam Lal Seva Sanstan and Anand Lok Sansthan. Medicines will be delivered to widows ashrams around Braj.
In some widows ashrams, the widows live independently and purchase their own food and medicines from their pensions. Groups of widows can be seen walking to and from widow’s feasts, which are arranged from time to time by different NGOs. Despite the good work that NGOs in the area are doing, many widows are still living in poor conditions.
The Supreme Court panel, which is currently investigating the situation of widows in Vrindavan, recently reported that, among Government departments, there is a shifting of responsibility in regards to the provision of services for widows.
The Supreme Court has been investigating the condition of widows in Vrindavan since 2007, when a petition was filed by National Commission for Women, District Legal Services Authority and National Legal Services Authority highlighting the inadequacy of the facilities in widows ashrams in which widows do not have easy access to basic facilities like bathrooms and are forced to pump their own drinking water from hand pumps.
