Vrindavan, 2018. 03.08 (VT): Vrindavan is known for the temples of Krishna and every house of this town is a temple itself. Among so many temples, there are a few temples that have a unique type of deity and a different pattern of worship. Shri Savaman Shaligram is one of these temples.
Savaman Shaligram temple is situated across the street from Radha Shyam Sundar temple. A steep, narrow staircase between the shops of Loi Bazar also leads to the temple.
Inside the temple, two gigantic Shaligram Shilas are worshiped. The temple was built by the King of Rewa and the Jalan family in 1823. Currently, this temple under the direction of Acharya Shri Ram Sharma (Bohare ji) and his sons. It is said that the Shaligrams here are some of the biggest in India.
Ram Laxman Sita and Shaligrams
Shaligram bhagvan is accepted as being a form of the Lord. The shilas are only found in the Kali Gandaki river at Muktinatha in Nepal. A hike of more than a hundred miles over rough mountainous terrain is required to approach the area called Shaligram Kshetra.
Shri Chandrashekhar Acharya says in his song, Tulasi Aarati, “Worshipable Tulasi Devi you have performed long austerities and have become the offering to the Lord’s Shaligram expansion.” You will notice that Shalagram is always worshiped with Tulasi leaves. (P)
