Mathura, 2018.03.20 (NZ) The Uttar Pradesh government is in the process of starting interstate bus services to Jammu & Kashmir by end of August.

Initially, 12 buses will ply on six routes — two buses on each route — identified by officials of both states. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the transport authorities of both states to facilitate the service. UP State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) chief general manager (CGM) H S Gaba told TOI, “The agreement is in its infancy, and objections from the people are yet to be invited.

The procedure is expected to be completed by April-end.

The agreement will be finalised after the UP governor signs it.” “The commencement of bus services to J&K will take at least four months.”

Initially, two buses will be made operational on each of the six routes,” said Gaba. A meeting to this effect was held recently in Lucknow and was attended by UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath, transport minister Swatantra Dev Singh, principal secretary Aradhana Shukla, transport commissioners, and UPSRTC managing director. Issuing an official statement after the meeting, the transport department stated that “both the states have finalised three routes for each of the states”.

According to the agreement, the six routes identified by both states are — Jammu to Lucknow via Delhi and Knapur; Jammu to Aligarh via ISBT Kashmirigate and Sarai Kaley Khan, New Delhi, and Yamuna Expressway; Jammu to Agra via ISBT Kashmirigate and Sarai Kaley Khan, New Delhi, Yamuna Expressway; Mathura-Delhi-Katra (via Yamuna Expressway); Saharanpur-Ambala-Jalandhar-Pathankoat-Katra; and Muzzafarnagar-Haridwar-Jammu-Katra.

UPSRTC is, meanwhile, also planning to launch as many as 40 interceptor vehicles to aid passengers in case of emergency, and to install panic buttons on its existing fleet. The interceptor vehicle service will initially be linked to UPSRTC’s upcoming all-women pink buses and will be extended to the entire fleet of UPSRTC later, following its success in the state, TOI had earlier reported..
