Mathura, 2018.0323 (TOI): In a bid to increase passengers’ amenities and give an aesthetic makeover to the most visited stations in North Central Railway zone, the railways has sent a proposal to Railway Board for the redevelopment of three junctions – Mathura, Allahabad and Jhansi.
A detailed project report (DPR) of the three stations would be submitted to the board by March 31 and the deadline for the project completion work is December 31.
Talking to TOI, Sanchit Tyagi, divisional commercial manager of Agra, said, “Out of 413 railway stations, NCR has selected the three stations to increase passengers’ amenities such as installing escalators, lifts, and construction of boundary walls among others.”
“Stations like Mathura are important pilgrimage hubs and report over 45,000 footfall per day. Hence, we have decided to upgrade such stations to handle future demands,” he added.
At present, Mathura Junction has one escalator on one platform. There are a total of eight platforms in the station. Similarly, there is one foot-over bridge which connects all the platforms, but the stations’ boundary walls are damaged due to which cattle roam freely in the premises.
