Initially, authorities considered opening the Passport Office in Mathura but Vrindavan was chosen as the staff at the Vrindavan post office showed more diligence. The decision to open the Passport Office in Vrindavan was made in March this year. In March, it was announced that the passport office would open by April end, so the opening is a month behind schedule.
Presently, people from 13 districts travel to the Gaziabad office for passport applications. Anyone from these districts will be eligible to apply for a passport at the Vrindavan passport office, so, devotees from other cities, who come to apply for a passport, can also take the chance to take darshan of Vrindavan’s temples.
Preparations for the passport office are currently underway at the main branch of Vrindavan Post Office. The opening ceremony will be performed on 22nd May by Hema Malini and other dignitaries.
