
Vrindavan, September 10th 2015: The Vrindavan Green Awards 2015 was declared on Wednesday, by the selection committee chaired by Dr. Chandra Prakash Sharma. Shri Ram Narayan Brajwasi, Shri Damodar Das Shashtri, Shri Tamal Krishna Das and Jagannath Poddar were also part of the selection process. The Vrindavan Green Awards Ceremony event will be organized at the Swami Vivekananda Auditorium, situated at Rama Krishna Mission Sevashram on 16th September, 2015 at 4 p.m.
Vrindavan Green Awards are presented by ‘Friends of Vrindavan’ every year on the eve of the ‘Varah Dev Jayanti’ or the Hartalika Teej. This day is celebrated as the ‘Vedic Earth Day’ by the organizers. The first ‘Vrindavan Green Awards ceremony’ was organized in 2013 in which the Meera Bai Temple received the Green Temple Award. The Tatiasthan received the ‘Green Temple Award’ in 2015.
Seven nominees were shortlisted for these awards. The committee declared the ‘Green Temple Award’ for Shri Rangji Mandir, Green School Award for Vatsalya Gram’s Shri Krishna Brahma Ratan Vidya Mandir, Green Journalism Award for Shri Braj Khandelwal, Green Campaign Award for Maan Mandir, Varsana, Green Legal Intervention award for Shri Rahul Choudhry, Green Community Award for Kailash Nagar Welfare Association, Green Bureaucrat Award to Shri V.P. Singh, Executive Engineer of the Electricity Department.
Talking to the media, the chairperson of the selection committee Dr. Chandra Prakash Sharma said, “We are losing the original ethos of Vraja to the increasing level of pollution. The rampant cutting of the trees, mining of the hills of Vraja, Yamuna Pollution and concretization of the Vraja Bhumi are some of the issues which are matter of great concern. Our effort is to encourage those who are working for the cause of environment protection in Vraja.” “Presenting Green Awards is a token of respect for those who are constantly working for the preservation of the ecology in Vraja,” added Dr. Chandra Prakash.
A Cultural Event will be organized in honor of the nominees of the ‘Vrindavan Green Awards’.
