Vasanta Panchami this year falls on February 12th.
To celebrate this beautiful season, Vraja Kishori Publications of Sri Vrindavan Dham will offer a daily dose of Lila Kirtans to celebrate the Spring Season of Hori (Holi) through the Poems of the Bhaktikalin Yuga Poets in the tradition of the Path of Grace, the Pushtimarg, based on the teachings of Sri Vallabhacharyaji.
In this Path of Grace “Raga Seva” takes pride of place and every period of the Daily Seva [Ashtayam Seva] is thus accompanied by the appropriate bhava expressed through such melody and rhythm, in the Haveli Sangeet style. The Songs [padas] vary according to the time of day and season,d escribing the Beloveds’ activities, Their attire and mood and of course the devotees’ loving mood towards Them, from dawn to dusk. Each pada is a meditation in itself!
Here we are including excerpts from our latest Publication,”Vasanta Ashtayam Seva: Spring Songs for Seva” which also gives a detailed description of the Season of Hori according to the Pushtimargi Tradition in which the festval lasts for a full 40 days. The best known forms of song here are the Rasiya and Dhamar.
JAGAYAVE KE PAD
(Songs to wake up the Beloved in the early morn of Holi)
Pada – Rāga Vasaṁta

प्रात समैं गिरिधरनलाल कौ
करति प्रबोध जसोदा मैया ।
जागौ लाल, चिरैया बोलीं,
सुंदर मेरे कुँवर कन्हैया ॥१॥
हलधर संग लैहौ मनमोहन,
खेलनजाउ ब्रिन्दाबन धम ।
ऋतु बसंत प्रफुलित अति देखियत
सुंदर हे कालिंदी ठाम ॥२॥
जननि-बचन सुनति मनमोहन,
आनँद उर न समाई ।
‘कृष्णदास’ प्रभु बेगि उठे जब,
जननि-जसोदा कंठ लगाई ॥३॥
Prāta samaiṁ giridharanalāla kau
Karati prabodha jasodā maiyā |
Jāgau lāla, ciraiyā bolīṁ
Suṁdara mere kuṁvara kanhaiyā ||1||
Haladhara saṁga laihau manamohana
Khelana jāu brindābana dhāma |
Ṛtu basaṁta praphulita ati dekhiyata
Suṁdara he kāliṁdīṭhāma ||2||
Janani-bacana sunati manamohana
Ānaṁda ura na samāī |
‘Kṛṣṇadāsa’ prabhu begi uṭhe jaba

In the early morn, Sri Yashodaji wakes up her son, Sri Krishna, the Upholder of the Sri Girirajji Mountain. “Wake up, my dear son, sweet lovely Krishna; the birds are singing their dawn chorus. ||1||
O, You Who captivate the heart, take your brother Balaram with You and go and play Holi in Sri Vrindavan. The spring season is here making all the flowers bloom and rendering the banks of the Sri Yamunaji River most lovely. ||2||
Hearing His mother’s words, the delightful Krishna’s heart is filled with joy. When He jumps up to leave, His mother gives Him a big hug. ||3||
Pada – Rāga Vibhāsa

खिलावन आवेंगी व्रजनारी ।
जागो लाल चिरैया बोलीं
कहे जसुमति महतारी ॥१॥
ओट्यो दूधपान करि मोहन
वेगि करो स्नान गुपाल ।
करिश्रृंगार नवल बानिक बनि
फेंटन भरो गुलाल ॥२॥
बलदाऊले संग सखा सब
खेलो अपनेद्वार ।
कुंकुम चंदनचोवा छिरको
घसि मृगमद घनसार ॥३॥
लेकनहेर सुनोमेरेमोहन
गावत आवेंगारी ।
व्रजपति तबही चौंकि उठिबैठे
कितमेरी पिचकारी ॥३॥

“The Gopis are going to come and play Holi with You, so wake up now my dear Son, the birds are singing”, says Queen Yashoda. ||1||
“Drink up Your milk Gopal, and quickly have a bath! Get dressed up in a fresh new outfit and tie up some pink powder into Your waistband. ||2||
Take Your brother Balaram with You and gather up all Your cowherd friends and play with all of them in their houses. They will have made ready red kumkum, sandal paste, and water perfumed with musk. ||3||
“Listen now, my Dear lovely Boy: they are singing sweet insults as they make their way here”; Hearing these words Krishna, the Lord of Vraja, jumps up and asks “Where’s my water pistol?” ||4||
