The Board resolution accused him of burning trash himself to tarnish the elected body’s image.
On Tuesday, the Municipal Board passed a resolution to file a First Information Report (FIR) against the petitioner for his so called mischief. However, the resolution passed by the board was not unanimous, as some board members objected to the proposal, and said that the petitioner did nothing wrong. The petition with the NGT highlighted how the municipality had failed to develop landfill sites and scientifically dispose garbage in the town visited by hundreds of thousands Krishna devotees.
The members Vishnudan Sharma, Govind Sharma, Jamuna Prasad Upadhyay and Mustafa Alam opposed the proposal to file an FIR against the petitioner. Mustafa Aalam, a board member of the council said that it was due to the directions from the NGT, some improvements are being seen in the Municipal Solid Waste Management of the town. He was of the opinion that the board shouldn’t discourage the petitioner.
Talking to the media, the Executive Officer of the Vrindavan Municipal Council Shri Ram Asrey Kamal said, “ Shukla has been indulged in such activities for a long time. He stopped the construction of the half circular bridge being built at Keshi Ghat, by securing a injunction. Now he is conspiring against the local civic body by burning the garbage and taking pictures of it. We will file and FIR against him as directed by the Municipal Committee.”
Shri Amit Bharadwaj from the ‘Tirtha Purohit Sangh’ has criticized the move of the Vrindavan Municipality. He demanded that the Municipality should immediately withdraw the malicious resolution.
The Braj -Vrindavan Heritage Alliance, the forum of the eco –activists of Vrindavan, Shri Madhumangal Shukla stood firmly with him. The BVHA said that they were observing the developments closely and is considering filing a defamation suit against the municipality.
It should be noted that NGT appointed a lawyer, Shri Rahul Khurana, as a local commissioner to visit Vrindavan and verify the ground reality. Shri Khurana visited Vrindavan on 26th March and collected evidence of the garbage mis-management in Vrindavan.
The petitioner Madhumangal Shukla said, “I have simply said the truth and will present my arguments before the NGT. The same municipality had felicitated me on January 26th 2015 for my work and now all of sudden I have become a villain for them. It is beyond my ability to comprehend.” “ Obviously my work is harming some people’s interests,” said Shukla.
