Vrindavan, 2016.04.03 (TOI): BJP activists and supporters from Assam are seeking divine intervention for the party’s success in the ensuing assembly elections in the state by organizing non-stop ‘yagyas’ and ‘kirtans’ in the holy city of Vrindavan.

The rituals, which began on Thursday at Nabha Bali Kunj at the historic Madan Mohan Temple with a ‘havan’, are also being held at eight other places across the country, including Kamakhya temple in Assam and in Kolkata.

Talking to TOI, Meghshyam, vice-president of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), Vrindavan, said these ‘yagyas’ are being held to pray for the formation of a BJP government in Assam with full majority. He said these rituals would continue non-stop till the declaration of results.

A BJP supporter from Assam, Deepu Dey, said these rituals are also being performed to pray for justice for all those innocent people who were killed in riots in Assam under the Congress rule. He said the ‘yagyas’ would continue till the declaration of results and formation of a majority BJP government in that state.

Accusing the Congress of “ruining” the state, Dey said only the BJP can ensure development of Assam and prevent the infiltration of Bangladeshis. “The Congress has done nothing to stop the infiltration of Bangladeshis and only the BJP can end this by implementing its promise of sealing the state’s borders,” said Dey, alleging that this illegal migration had virtually wiped out indigenous Assamese.

Meanwhile talking to TOI, Sreenath Goswami, a priest at the Banke Bihari temple, Vrindavan, said during elections politicians come in “hordes” here to seek blessings. “If a politician usually visits Vrindavan once a year, the frequency increases manifold during elections and they come repeatedly to perform various rituals,” he said adding that even Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had visited the temple.
