Vrindavan 2016.04.26 (VT): Even after the ban from National Green Tribunal (NGT) garbage is still getting burned out in the open in Vrindavan and surrounding areas. This ban is on all the local bodies including Municipal Corporation, but a garbage fire was burning on Monday near the Gandhi Marg railway crossing.
After the petition filed by activist Madhumangal Shukla, NGT has banned the Municipal Corporation and MVDA from burning trash, as well as from dumping around the Yamuna and on the floodplain.
NGT has also deployed a commissioner to get to know the current state of pollution in Vrindavan. Commissioner Rahul Khanna included the problem of squalor, garbage dumping on Yamuna river fronts and garbage burning in open in the report he submitted a month back.
The petitioner has told to our correspondent that he will take this issue again to the NGT. Mr. T. N. Chaturvedi (EO at Municipal Corporation) told our correspondent that no staff from the local body is involved in burning the garbage in open.
