Radha Kund (2015.09.22): The Padma Charitable Trust, an NGO engaged in various services in the Govardhan-Radha Kund area, is looking for a woman proficient in both English and Hindi, and preferably Bengali also, to fill a managerial post to help run its program to help the widows of Radha Kund.
According to Mayapur Chandra Das, the project director, “Typically, the widows of Radha Kunda are lucky to get one meal a day, so the PCT’s goal to give them all regular and dependable daily meals. There are hundreds who need improvement in their food situation. We are currently feeding about 70 widows per day, but want to expand to at least 100 in the near future.”
He told Vrindavan Today, “As our daily service to the widows is increasing, we need a woman who can work full-time in Radha Kund. We can pay INR 20k per month. We need someone who can speak English and at least Hindi, preferably also Bengali. This is a managerial position and requires some strength of character and the ability to be kind and determined as needed. This person needs to be very trustworthy with time and money and should be able to provide sterling references. She will eventually need an assistant.”
The manager
- will work with the project directors in detailed planning and coordinating of activities;
- would be required to help improve the daily prasada standard and helping to set a menu for the cooks that have already been hired;
- will find and decide more widows who need to be part of our daily feeding program and invite them to join the program as funds allow;
- will help record the oral histories of the widows being fed;
- determine who are the neediest and assist them in finding places to live;
- hiring additional lady assistants to help with the service and take care of the women on a day-to-day basis;
- coordinating with other agencies doing similar work in Radha Kunda and elsewhere.
Mayapur Chandra Das, the project director, says, “Most places provide services for the poor and widows only on festival days. Our desire is to provide them with not only rotis (bread) and subji (mixed vegetables), but also more complete and variegated meals with milk products like paneer, yogurt, ghee, etc.”
