“We have been praying to God through music since centuries. It not only gives us vigour but encourages us to lead our life in high spirit,” he said.
The Governor also noted that there is no language of music and it is expressed through seven notes.
The Mahotsav was inaugurated yesterday by the Governor and AAP leader Kumar Vishwas.
The programme with its medley of song and dance and other curricular activities stole everyone’s hearts.
The Odissi dance by the girls’ Adwaita dance group on ‘Namami Bal Gopalam’ and Kathak dance by Asim Bandhu Bhattacharya group were some of the highlights of the event. Other performers included Dr. Mamta Joshi who sang Sufi qawwali
Swami Haridas Sangeet evam Nritya Samaroh claims to be India’s oldest festival of music and dance. The two-day festival is held in Vrindavan on the occasion of Radhashtami, which coincides with the appearance day of Swami Haridas. This year marked the 154th consecutive year that the festival has been held, its inaugural year being 1861. This year the festival was held at the Bon Maharaj College auditorium.
This festival celebrates Swami Haridas’ role in the development of Indian classical music as well as his devotion. Swami Haridas was the medium through which Banke Bihari made his appearance on this earth. The festival pays tribute to him by inviting eminent musicians and dancers from across India.
Gopi Goswami, Secretary of Sangeet Shiromani Swami Haridas Samiti said, “The festival has become an annual pilgrimage for the connoisseurs of Indian art and culture. Every year the festival is attended by thousands of people for the love of music and love of Lord Krishna and Radha immortalized by great saints of this country. A stage like Swami Haridas Sangeet evam Nritya Mahotsav gives renowned artists an opportunity to perform in the presence of a large gathering including prominent people from the field of arts and culture. This festival also gives platform to many young and budding artistes to perform in the land of Lord Krishna.”
Also on the Governor’s itinerary was a visit to the newly inaugurated Jagadguru Kripalu Chikitsalaya.
