Akhilesh wants Yamuna riverfront to have “look and feel” of Dwapara Yug

Vrindavan 2016.05.23 (VT): Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has now declared a timeline for his “dream project” in Vrindavan. The CM has communicated the timeline to all the concerned departments for improving the situation of the holy city and its riverfront. The strictness recently shown by the State Government has resulted in 24 hour work going on in the Yamuna basin.

The State Government has already prepared a blue print to develop the Yamuna riverfront by which devotees will be able to worship the river even in summers and enjoy the scenery. The JCB machines are working day and night to divert the route of Yamuna so that the development can be done properly and quickly.

The Irrigation Department, UP Project Corporation and AE Com Ltd. have already prepared a blueprint for the riverfront development. Project Coordinator and Chief Engineer at the Irrigation Department, Umesh Chandra, said that this is the right time to get a good start to the project as the river narrows down in the summertime due to heat and no water discharge from Hathani Kund. Only sewer water flows in the river during this time.

The plan also includes the added discharge of 550 cusecs water of Ganga water from the Harnaul Escape, which would come through the Maat branch canal. This will give sufficient pure water in the river so that devotees can perform rituals and take a holy bath.

Other elements of the development include a park, forest area and walk way that will also be developed at the river front to boost tourism.

The water level will also be sufficiently maintained so that the river can flow up to the ghats and small boats can also easily float in it.

CM Akhilesh Yadav said that he wants to give Vrindavan the look and feel of the Dwapar Yug.
