Mathura, 2016.08.08 (IANS): Actor and Mathura MP Hema Malini on Sunday said traditional Braj folk music and songs needed to be promoted, and local cultural streams enriched.

She said there should be no mixing of film music with traditional folk songs

Hema Malini was speaking at a program in the Radha Ashok Hotel to release a new album musical production in the Braj language by Sunita Dhakad and her group, entitled “Braj Mandakini”.

Hema said there should be no mixing of film music with traditional folk songs. “Even the instruments used should be local, traditional and folk.”

During the months of Sawan and Bhadon, there is a huge influx of pilgrims in Braj area, and the demand for local musical productions in Braj language spirals, culture critic Mahesh Dhakar said.

The Braj linguistic region stretches from Mathura, Jalesar, Agra, Hathras and Aligarh right up to Etah, Mainpuri and Farrukhabad districts in Uttar Pradesh.

Also present were the Kendriya Hindi Sansthan Registrar, Dr. Chandrakant Tripathi and Secretary of the Braj Mandal Heritage Conservation Society, Brij Khandelwal, as well as many artists from the region.
