Vrindavan 2016.08.15 (VT): Devotees fom all over the country thronged the holy city of Vrindavan on the occasion of Ekadashi as well as Jhulan Yatra yesterday. The roads were so crowded that it was hard to even walk to the temple. Thakur Bankey Bihari Ji along with other major temple noticed record footfall on the occasion, leaving behind the festival of Guru Purnima.
Devotees started visiting the city on Friday as the long weekend approached. Monday was the Indian Independence Day (Aug. 15).
More devotees thronged the city on the sacred day of Ekadashi and start of Jhulan Yatra breaking the records of Hariyali Teej and Guru Purnima. Lanes leading to Thakur Bankey Bihari temple were all mobbed with heavy crowds from early morning on. Even after the doors of the temple closed at 12 pm, the crowd situation remained unchanged because of which security guards and Police personnel deployed at the temple also faced the challenge of maintaining peace and security.
Even the roads connecting the city to Yamuna Expressway, Mathura and National Highway were jammed till late at night because of the heavy crowd and traffic diversions from Police. Parking places as well as hotel and guest houses were also full as a result many devotees spend the day wandering on roads, sitting in some temple or in their cars.
Temporary parking facilities were also full by morning 11 am, because of which many cars were wandering around the city looking for a suitable parking spot.
Mathura road, Chatikara road, and Yamuna expressway were all jammed because of the heavy footfall yesterday.
