Mathura, 2016.08.29 (V.T.): Mathura DM Shri Nikhil Chandra Shukla was transferred on Saturday, after being in the District for only two and half months. He is being replaced by Dr. Nitin Bansal, an IAS of the 2009 batch, who took over the DM charge on Monday. He was earlier posted as the DM of Etawah District.
After assuming the charge, Dr. Bansal visited the Banke Bihari Mandir and took the blessings of the Lord. After that he met senior administration officials and took stock of the projects now underway across the district.
Shri Bansal said that all ongoing projects of the State Government in Mathura would be expedited. His focus would be on developing the city as a spiritual tourism destination. He further said that the law and order situation will be improved and basic facilities made available to the common man.
The new DM has replaced Shri Nikhil Chandra Shukla, who was sent to Mathura by helicopter after the Jawahar Bagh mayhem. Shukla was given charge of Mathura on June 6th; four days after the violence broke out when police tried to evict encroachers from Jawahar Bagh Park in Mathura. The then SP (City), Shri Mukul Dwivedi, SO Farah, Shri Santosh Yadav and more than 100 others were massacred in the operation.
The transfer of the DM brought everyone to surprise, as he was only stayed about two and half months in the district. People are speculating why the DM was transferred so quickly. It is believed that the State Government was not happy with the previous DM’s performance, as none of the developmental programme initiated by the State Government was being seen on the ground.
Keeping view of the election due in 2017, the government has put trust on the new District Magistrate Dr. Nitin Bansal to expedite the priority projects of the government.
Numerous such projects are underway in the district, funded by both State as well as Central Governments.
