Vrindavan 2016.09.30 (VT): Shanjhi Mahotsav, which was started with the starting of Pitru Paksh, is in full swing in Vrindavan. Old temples are celebrating the festival in different styles with colourful sanjhis made from flower, colours, cow dung and clay.
In the ongoing festival, temples celebrated the “ekadashi” with the sanjhi made from colours. Radha Vallabh temple, Yashoda Nandan temple, Radha Raman temple, Radhika Priya Vallabh temple, Yashoda Nandan Dham, Shahjahanpur temple, etc. celebrated the ekadashi day with various sanjhi made from colours.
Devotees from all over theworld throng Vrindavan to be a part of Sanhi Mahotsav. Yogendra Goswami, sewayat at Radha Vallabh temple, said that Sanjhi has been an eternal part of the Braj culture, which is directly related to the pastimes of Radha and Krishna. He said that when Krishna used to return with cows every evening, Radha used to make beautiful arts for him using colours, clay, cow dung and flowers. Since the time was evening or “sanjh” in Hindi, hence the name Sanjhi.
