Vrindavan 2016.12.30 (VT): Bihar’s health minister called for a nationwide ban of cow-slaughter during a recent trip to Vrindavan.
Tej Pratap Yadav is the son of Lalu Prasad Yadav, the former chief minister of Bihar and the leader of the RJD. The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party has welcomed his passionate statement of compassion for mother cow.
Mr. Yadav stated that Bihar’s current regulations against cow slaughter have been ineffective. He promised that soon, the Bihar government will bring the State into full compliance.
Killing a cow currently carries a six-month prison sentence in Bihar, with a fine of 1,000 rupees (15 USD).
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi should ban cow slaughter [nationwide] the way he banned the high-value notes in the country,” said Mr. Yadav.
Twenty-four of India’s twenty-nine states currently have various regulations regarding cow sale and slaughter.
