Vrindavan, 2017.01.07 (VT): Students and faculty from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, USA, visited Vrindavan on Friday. Their two-week study abroad program is focused on Women’s Leadership in India.
A long-time activist for Vrindavan’s ecological welfare, Ms. Katie Jo Walter Shoemaker, is leading the program on behalf of Indo Genius. KU faculty members Mary Banwart, PhD and Alexis Woszidlo, PhD, as well as Indo Genius co-founder Nick Booker-Soni, are also in attendance.
Most of the students had never been to India before, but they were very eager to learn about a land and culture that was so different from the one they had always known.
Their mission was to learn about challenges women face in India, and the leadership strategies they use to overcome those challenges.
Smt. Radhika Goswami of the Shri Radharaman Temple hosted an in-depth dialogue on Women and Leadership in Vrindavan at the Amiya Nimai Temple. Sharing examples from her own life, she explained the contrasts between living in the West versus living in India, her experiences serving her husband‘s disciples as guru maa, and her role as Chief Editor for Ocean of Devotion’s publications department, amongst other topics.
Her enthralling presentation took great care to answer everyone’s questions to their full satisfaction.
From there, the group proceeded to the Shri Radharaman Temple where the conversation shifted to the bhakti-yoga tradition of Vrindavan.
The students learned about the temple’s history, the daily worship schedule, and the love Vrindavan’s people have for Krishna. The students also had the opportunity to see the temple’s midday aarti ceremony,
The group then proceeded to Akshay Patra to learn about their school lunch program. They will visit Agra, Rathambore, Jaipur, and Delhi, before returning home to Lawrence, Kansas.
