Vrindavan, 2017.05.05 (DJ, VT): The Central Urban Ministry on Thursday issued a list ranking the sanitation levels of 434 Indian cities. Mathura came in 352nd on that list.
It is a matter of great shame for the residents of Mathura that despite very public cleanliness drives over the past few years, not much seems to have changed.
On behalf of the Municipality, Manisha Gupta said, “Our city has a population of 6.5 lakh (650,000), but we only have 350 cleaning workers on staff. They cannot possibly keep such a large area clean. We have tried hiring cleaners on contract, but these people do not work.
“We will have to hire many more permanent sanitation workers in order to keep our city clean.”
