Barsana, 2017.06.01 (VT): Barsana Police on Wednesday afternoon raided an illegal arms factory in the small village of Hathiya. The village lies near the Rajasthan border, between Govardhan and Barsana.
Police received a tip that led them to a wooded area near the village, where they discovered the illegal weapons factory in a dilapidated building.
An initial attempt to raid the building was met with gunfire from the criminals. The standoff lasted for an hour, after which three suspects were apprehended.
Illegal arms dealers are a continuing problem in the area. The accused say that the weapons they make sell fro between four and ten thousand rupees. Generally the weapons are purchased by gangs, who then sell them other groups and individuals for inflated prices.
