Agra, 2017.06.22 (TNN): A group of more than 100 Digambar Jain pilgrims, led by noted Jain ascetic Muni Virag Swami, were on their way from Kosi Kalan to Chatta on foot when a beehive fell on the road, releasing a swarm of bees which attacked the pilgrims. Several of the Jains suffered serious injuries and were admitted to nearby hospitals, but were later discharged. According to officials, all the pilgrims refused to take further assistance from the police.
The incident took place on Tuesday at around 7pm near Ishwar Chand Vidya Sagar Institute of Technology on National Highway 2. One of the devotees, Mukesh Jain said the group was coming from Jhansi and heading towards Delhi. They were being felicitated at several places along the way. On Tuesday evening, when they were coming out of the institute, a beehive fell on the road nearby and a swarm of bees was released.
Arun Thakur, a member of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and an eyewitness, said, “As soon the news spread, I along with some of our volunteers rushed to the spot. Sub-divisional magistrate of Chatta, Aditya Prajapati, and station officer of Chatta, Pradeep Singh also arrived and summoned an ambulance. Paramedics provided first aid to the injured. However, the pilgrims, including those had been injured, politely declined further assistance from the administration.”
Chatta SO Pradeep Singh confirmed the incident and said the police and administration had provided all possible assistance to the group.
