Vrindavan, 2015.12.21 (VT): Indian National Trade Union workers campaigned on the streets and in the markets creating awareness and educating shopkeepers and the general public on the detrimental effects of polythene use to the environment. While doing so, they distributed jute carry bags to people, thus urging them to adopt natural alternatives.
The Uttar Pradesh government has initiated a ban on polythene use and imposed a heavy fine on those who refrain from doing so. Tarachandra Gosvami said that due to polythene use, the fertility of the land and also the groundwater levels have been drastically reducing day by day, and posing a severe threat to the future of humanity. The campaign was widely appreciated.
