Govardhan, 2018.02.26 (VT) An Ahmedabad company has signed an agreement with the government to provide a tram service along Govardhan’s Parikrama Marg. The agreement is worth Rs79 crore ($US 12.5 million) and will see a tram that can carry 300 people at a time along the parikrama road.

During the recent UP Investor’s Summit, a written agreement was made between the director of the Department of Tourism, Avanish Kumar Awasthi and the director of the Khodal Corporation of Ahmedabad, Hitendra Shanalal Shah. Khodal Corporation runs a fun park in Gujarat. According to the agreement, the company will also install rides for children along the Govardhan tram line.
Braj Tirth Vikas Parishad Vice president, Shailjakant Mishra and CEO Nagendra Pratap have been integral in pushing for a Govardhan Parikrama tram.
Most people see the tram as a sign of progress and development, however, there are also some who are concerned that having a tram wiz past will disturb those who spend 5-6 hours doing Govardhan parikrama on foot while cultivating peacefulness of mind and meditating on Shri Krishna’s pastimes.
From the point of view the of history and culture of Braj, there is little justification for such tram as, the Govardhan shila at Vrindavan’s Radha Damodar temple was gifted to Sanatan Goswami by Shri Krishna himself for the benefit of devotees who cannot walk the 21km of Goverdhan Parikrama.
