Holi celebrations in every temple and street of Braj

Braj, 27.02.27 (VT) Holi is in the air in Braj. Yesterday was ekadasi and the Holi colours came out in force on Vrindavan’s Parikrama Marg. While other places have a 2 day celebration for Holi, the widespread practice of observing Ekadasi in Vrindavan means that the Ekadasi before Holi marks the beginning of ‘badi Holi’ in Vrindavan.

Devotees wishing to get the extra benefits of doing parikrama on ekadasi while also playing Holi could be seen walking and dancing on the Parikrama Marg with such density that it becomes difficult to cross the Parikrama Marg at any of the intersections and there are thousands more people than vehicles on the road.

Holi programs were held in temples around Vrindavan including a small program for residents and special guests at Vatsalyagram, Vrindavan. The sadvis, including the organization’s founder, Sadvi Ritambara Didima enjoyed putting colourful marks on each others foreheads before throwing large amounts of colour over each other and even using water guns to play Holi with the children who live in the organization’s hostel and ashram.

The speaker of the Haryana Legislative Assembly, Kanwar Pal Gurjjar, attended the event and was just as eager as the other guests, residents, staff and children to get the blessing of colour from Didima. Explaining the meaning of putting colour on each other, Didima said that, as colours blend together, differences are forgotten and, at this time of year, we forget our different positions and have fun together.
