Vrindavan, 2018.03.17 (VT) Sarla Devi, 55, resident of Bulkeshwar, Agra, was visiting Banke Bihari temple with her husband on Friday when a monkey dropped a brick on her head. She became unconscious and was bleeding profusely.
At the dispensary nearby the temple, first aid intervention was taken to stop the bleeding , then she was rushed to Ramakrishna Mission Hospital where surgeons closed the wound with 20 stitches. Bihariji management have checked the roof and are giving assurances that there are no loose bricks lying around.
Banke Bihari temple is one of the hot-spots for monkey related incidents. The food stalls and large numbers of tourists make the area a prime hunting ground for monkeys. There have been several instances where monkeys have stolen someone’s purse and sat on the roof throwing the money into the air. In one case, over 1 lakh rupees (US$2000) was thrown into the air by monkeys.
Solutions to the monkey issue have been under discussion for several years, however, little progress has been made. Recently MRC was given a contract to relocate 300 monkeys, however, there are at least 40,000 monkeys in Vrindavan.
