Lucknow, 2016.01.24 (Aditya Dev, TNN): With a Rs 441 crore grant from the World Bank under pro-poor tourism project, UP tourism department plans to give a major facelift to twin holy cities of Mathura and Vrindavan in the next five years.
This year Rs 39 crore will be utilized to upgrade Banke Bihari temple, start a heritage walk connecting several temples of Vrindavan and developing a Krishna Van in 2.5 acres of land.

Clik here to view.Tourism officer Anupam Srivastav said, “A team of senior officials of World Bank and Mathura administration on Friday conducted a survey of Banke Bihari temple and Van Chetna Kendra where the Krishna-theme based park will come up. The detailed project reports (DPR) of these two works have already been submitted to the international financial institution, and they physical verified the sites. We are hopeful that grants will be released by April, while the work will start from May this year.”
Srivastav added that the heritage walk and renovation of Banke Bihari temple would cost Rs 11 crore, while Rs 28 crore will be spent on Krishna Van. These two projects would be completed by March 2017.
The department has decided to repair all the approach roads leading to one of the city’s oldest temples, in addition of installing signage and provide basic amenities at parking lot.
According to the official, the length of the heritage walk will be 1.4 km and it will start from Banke Bihari temple and covering seven spots (mostly temples) will end at Gandhi Park.
As far as Krishna Van is concerned, Rs 28 crore will be spent on plantation of religious and ayurvedic trees, besides on installation of an RO plant to treat saline water for irrigation purpose. No permanent structure will be erected, as it falls under the forest area.

The Uttar Pradesh Pro Poor Tourism Development Project has been approved by the screening committee of the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance.
The project aims to contribute to improving living conditions and increasing income opportunities for the poor through enhanced tourism development in selected destinations in the Buddhist Circuit, Braj region and Agra.
An aid worth Rs 1,800 crore for developing tourism projects under this programme in the Agra-Mathura and Buddha circuits in the state will be provided by the bank.
