Smt. Renuka Kumar, Principal Secretary of the Women Welfare Department of Uttar Pradesh visited Vrindavan on Friday. She gave this information during a press conference. Mrs. Kumar said, “According to a recent survey 2500 widows, who migrated from the other states, are living in Vrindavan and 800 living in Radha Kund. But there is no widow home in Radha Kund. We are trying that a widow home also gets built in Radha Kund.”
She said that the widows and old women living in the Purana Pagal Baba Ashram will be shifted to some other place, as the existing building has become very old and may collapse any day. A land has been identified for building a new home. The construction works to build the ashram will begin soon.
Replying to a question of the media persons, she said that the widow home in the Chaitanya Vihar, Phase – II has also become a ruin just within six years after the construction. She asked the MVDA to take action against the contractor who built the ashram. Cheap and low quality building materials were used when it was built.
She also said that once the construction projects are accomplished and other basic facilities are provided a proper counseling will be organized for those women who migrate here leaving their home. If they are ready to go back, arrangements will be done for their safe return to unite with their families.
She announced that all the widows received their pension in the current fiscal year. The dues of the previous fiscal year will also be cleared soon.
