Vrindavan 2016.05.15 (VT): The critical condition of the sewer lines in Vrindavan is one of the sore spots in keeping Yamuna pollution free. Until the problem has been resolved here in Vrindavan, where the river is held in the greatest veneration, where is the question of resolving the issues that arise throughout its length?
The sewer line broke again on Wednesday, and as a result all the drain water, garbage and other chemical waste went into Yamuna.
Late evening on Wednesday, the 4 MLD sewer line from the Mukherjee Park Sewer Pumping Station (SPS) to Mathura Road, broke down, which resulting in a flowing of all the chemical waste onto the road. The pumping station was closed as soon as they got the information. This resulted in more untreated water to flow into the Yamuna directly, near Shyam Kuti.
The Municipal Corporation Senior Inspector Awadhesh Yadav and Yogendra Sharma inspected the situation and started the repair work. They told our correspondent that the pumping line are getting old and they need to be replaced as soon as possible in order to avoid any future calamity.
The waste water from Kishorpura, Vihar Ghat, Lakshman Shahid and Gyan Gudari is treated in the SPS at Mathura Road. The treated water is then used for irrigation purposes.
Two years back Union Minister Uma Bharti came to inspect these sewer lines and proposed 29 crores for replacing the pipes, but no action has been taken yet on that. The proposal has already been submitted to the Union Government but authorities are still waiting for the grant.
