Vrindavan 2016.0415 (VT): State Government is preparing to have solar powered lights at the Yamuna river fronts. The work has already been started and is expected to go for a year, post which the river fronts will be shining from solar powered bulbs. Apart from that, Government is also planning to have more greenery on both sides of the river.

The Irrigation Department of the State Government is preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to develop the Yamuna riverfront and to provide it with solar-powered lighting.

There is no facility for people to change clothes after bathing in the holy river, due to which women specially face a lot of problem. The only exception to this is Keshi Ghat,

Efforts have been made by the Municipal Corporation over the past two years, during which they have written numerous letters to the Central and State Governments, but it is only now that the State Government has suddenly shown some pro-activeness in getting the work done.

Last week Mr. Deepak Singhal (Chief Secretary at Irrigation Department) and Mr. R. D. Paliwal (Staff Officer) inspected the riverfront and guided the concerned authorities to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) within a week.

Local bodies are also starting to show some initiative after seeing recent flurry of activity from the State Government. Irrigation Department and Water Board have started doing cumulative surveys for their part in developing the riverfront, including the construction of a drainage system parallel to the Yamuna. The solar lighting plan will take effect after that.
