Lucknow, 2016,04.22 (PTI, IST) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday wrote a letter to Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, seeking a modern rail bus service in Mathura-Vrindavan on a priority basis.
The rail bus is a single bogie train like a bus that runs on little used tracks, making short trips between fixed destinations.
Mr. Yadav said the Mathura-Vrindavan rail bus service will help solve traffic problems there and upgrade the tourism potential of the temple town to international standards, an official spokesperson said.
The Chief Minister suggested that Vrindavan and Mathura railway stations and nearby vacant land of the Railways be developed in keeping with the religious significance of the town, the spokesperson said.
Prabhu has been apprised of the fact that rail bus service was important in view of the heritage status of the two sides, he said, adding that locals and tourists have been raising the demand for a long time.
