Vrindavan, 2016.04.21 (VT): Earth Day was celebrated around the world yesterday. K.D. McComb, a dancer and clothing designer from Sonoma, California, recently returned from a trip to Vrindavan where she says she celebrated Earth Month!

K.D. has been regularly sponsoring tree planting with the Friends of Vrindavan organization. Four years ago, she was feeling grief at the recent demise of her grandfather. So in order to preserve his memory and to associate it with the Holy Dham, she scraped the money together from members of her family to respond to a call for tree sponsorship that had been put out by FOV.
“I sent money for four trees,” she says, “But with my donation funds, Friends of Vrindavan, directed by Jagannath Poddar and the gardener, Moolchand, planted fourteen indigenous trees, including tamal trees at their own headquarters!”
This year was K.D.’s first visit to the land of Radha and Krishna since the planting and she was very pleased to visit “her” trees and see how much they have grown in the four years.
The first tree here is a baby Banyan and the second is a Peepal tree at the Yamuna Kumbha Mela site, dedicated to her grandfather, James William McComb.This time, again, she performed the sad but joyful task of planting a tamal tree on Bhaktivedanta Marg in loving memory of her grandmother, Judy Lillian Ivy McComb. “It was pure Braj bliss to get my hands dirty in the sacred Braj Raj, the sacred soil of Vrindavan,” she said. “The baby tamal tree will grow, being fertilized with compost from flowers of the Krishna Balarama temple.”
Besides this service to the Dham, K.D. also performed “Sari Seva,” distributing over 50 garments, some white, some colorful, some sacred yellow, at the Nepali Ladies Ashram.
