Jal Yatra festival is organised every year during the poornima of Jyestha month (June) as per the Hindu calendar to give some relief to Thaur Ji from the scorching heat. During the festival, temple is decorated with showers with a pond in the middle. A boat is then prepared for the boat ride of Thakur Ji so that he can give darshan to devotees.

Thakur Radha Raman Lal temple celebrated the Jal Yatra in a grand way yesterday. The temple organised a small boat for Radha Raman Lal Ji on which he gave darshan to his devotees. While Thakur Ji was enjoying the boat ride, the devotees were shouting slogans for the Lord. Padmlochan Goswami said that it’s an old tradition to give relief to Thakur Ji in summers which included Phool Bangla and Jal Yatra.

Shah Ji Temple too organised a grand festival yesterday, to celebrate Jal Yatra. The temple is decorated with multiple showers in the middle of which Thakut Ji was sitting on a marble throne. Temple sewayat (Lord’s servant) Shah Prashant Kumar said that it’s only this time in the year when Shah Ji comes out of the temple to give darshan to the devotees.

On the occasion of Jal Yatra, Lord Jagannath took bath from 108 pots yesterday to relieve his devotees from pain and agony. After that he also took bath from fruit juices, due to which he is now suffering from cold these days. This is a part of the tradition which takes place every year in Jagannath Puri and Vrindavan. Mahant (head priest) of the temple offered ayurvedic medicines to the Lord so that he can be fit soon. The Lord will now be taking the rest of 15 days and will give next darshn on July 6th. Lord Jagannath, Baldev and Subhadra took bath in the mid of mantras, at around 5 p.m. yesterday at the Jagannath temple located at Gyan Gudri.

Mahant Swami Gyan Prakash said that the Lord will now take rest for 15 days as per the tradition, and the doors will reopen on 6th July after a special arti and chappan bhoga Prasad which will run for half a day. After this the Lord Jagannath, Baldev and Subhadra will come out on their respective chariots to explore the city and be back to the temple then. During this period, Lord will be offered special “ang-raag sewa” and he will be given “kaadha” (ayurvedic cough syrup) for two weeks.
