Vrindavan 2016.07.13 (VT): The Mahant of Anup Yuti Ashram on Gandhi Marg was forced by antisocial elements back to sign over his valuable property to them. But a worse sign of the extent of land mafia influence is that police refused to file an FIR, because of which he has been forced to go to court for justice.

The main accused, Ram Gopal, barged into the ashram with a few other armed miscreants around noon on June 8th of this year. They took the Mahant Vishnu Giri Swami to the Mathura registrar’s office and forced him to sign over the land in the name of accused.

On returning to Vrindavan, Later on, the victim reported the incident at the police station, but they refused to file an FIR against Ram Gopal. The victim went to Police Commissioner, SSP and DM also, but no action was taken to help the Mahant, making it necessary for him to take the matter to the court.

Mahamandaleshwar Avasheshanand Maharaj said that the accused has been trying to snatch this piece of land for years. Earlier he had filed a false FIR against Mahant Vishnu Giri to pressure him into giving the land.

Accused Ram Gopal said that all the allegations are false, and that the disputed land belongs to him, where he has been staying for the past 25 years. Mathura Police Inspector, Mr. Munish Chandra, said that they are working on the report filed by the victim, as per the orders from the court.

In response to this incident and several other similar incidents over the past few years, Saurabh Gaur of the Dharma Raksha Manch expressed concern that increasing property values are leading to lawlessness in the city that must be checked.
