Govardhan 2016.07.20 (VT): The centuries-old tradition of celebrating Guru Purnima was maintained yesterday on the occasion of Muriya festival. A huge rally was organised by the Radha Shyam Sundar temple of Govardhan to mark the occasion. Devotees danced to the beat of mridangas and kartals while others sang the Holy Names and kirtan. In this joyous mood, lakhs of devotees did parikrama around the sacred Govardhan hill.

Mahant Ram Krishna Das of Radha Shyam Sundar said that the occasion is celebrated in remembrance of Sanatan Goswami.
Every year the temple organises a huge rally with pictures of Sanatan Goswami and Radha Krishna, which is joined by lakhs of devotees and followers from around the world.
The procession had a multitude of devotees singing and dancing to the kirtan of the Holy Names while encircling Govardhan hill. It started from the Radha Shyam Sundar temple and arrived back there after completing the parikrama and visiting the Chakleshwar temple of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, located in the same area near Manasa Ganga.
Along with participants in the rally, people living by the Parikrama Marg also worshiped the saints by showering flowers from their rooftops and balconies.
Though the weather had been cloudy for the last week and there was heavy rainfall for the past couple of days, the devotees did not lose their enthusiasm to be a part of the Muriya festival celebration.
Devotees from different part of the world became a part of the celebration till the end of it. Many devotees took a holy bath in Mansi Ganga before worshiping Govardhan. Several devotees also arranged for drinking water and food facilities for the devotees encircling Govardhan.
