Vrindavan 2016.07.23 (VT): The approach road connecting Mathura Road to the Pani Gaon bridge and the Yamuna Expressway has developed new cracks after the heavy rainfalls last week.
The road, which was in disrepair after floods in 2011, is now in even worse condition, causing further trouble to commuters.
The Irrigation Department has made a temporary wall with cement bags on the side to prevent further erosion, but the villagers say that the measures are not sufficient as the temporary wall also does not extend over the whole endangered portion of the road.
The Vrindavan-Dangoli approach road was built as a bypass so that people using the bridge that connects Vrindavan to Mant and the Yamuna Expressway would not have to take the Parikrama Marg. But most part of the road got eroded by the flood in 2011, and has not been repaired since then.
Local residents and sants who have ashrams in the area have repeatedly requested the city administration to repair the road but no action has been taken yet.
After the heavy rains and rise in the water level in Yamuna last week, the remaining portion of the road is also getting cracked and eroded.
The poor condition of approach road, which also serves as an embankment, has raised concerns about flooding in nearby areas as well. The city administration is worried that rising Yamuna river water might enter the Pani Gaon area through the cracks on the road. In case of flood, water would flood into the southern portion of Vrindavan.
Swami Maheshanand Saraswati, Patron of the Vrindavan Development Association, has written a letter to CM Akhilesh Yadav asking him to intervene in the situation, and guide the local authorities to do the needful as soon as possible. He said that a lot of devotees and tourists visiting from Delhi are forced to use this road to go to Vrindavan.
Keeping this in mind, a proposal was sent to the city administration to include development of this road in the plans initiated by the Chief Minister, but it was not approved. The road is extremely important for resolving traffic problems in the town and should be repaired as quickly as possible.
