Mathura 2016.07.24 (VT): The Mathura city administration is all set to give a better look to the town starting from the city centre, i.e., the Holi Gate area.
To start with, the hanging electricity wires will be removed under the “Adarsh Mathura” project to develop Mathura as a “model city.” The Electricity Board is making plans to manage the cable after the instruction from DM Nikhil Chandra Shukla.
Last week after the inspection by the DM and further instructions b him, the city electricity board has already started removing the hanging wires. Separate loose wires will be replaced between Rangeshwar temple and Holi gate by bunch cabling having all wires put together in one pipe. Electricity pillars will also be replaced by boxes, which will not only supply but manage the electricity output as well.
The board started the work on Sunday under the supervision of SDO Sachin Sharma and Junior Engineer Arun Kumar. Senior Engineer (city) Pradeep Mittal and Executive Engineer (city) Sanjay Sharma also inspected the areas and gave their input.
Old drainage system need maintenance at Holi Gate
Though the city administration is trying its best to execute the “Adarsh Mathura” project starting from Holi Gate, the residents in the area are saying that the poor drainage system is a bigger problem here than hanging electricity wires.
Locals say that the drains are choked and Municipal Corporation is not taking any action to improve the situation despite repeated complaints. The situation becomes worse in the rainy season when the accumulated refuse in the drains causes dirty water to flow onto the road. “This defeats the cause of the Adarsh Mathura project,” say representatives of the business community.
Also the age-old drainage system has stone covering which is eroding with time. Locals demand repaviving of the stone covering with iron covering, which will last longer.
