Krishna’s land reverberated with the chants of ‘Bam Bam Bhole’

Mathura / Vrindavan, 2016.07.26 (V.T.): The ‘Shivalayas’ of Vraja Bhumi reverberated with the chants of ‘bam bam Bhole’ and ‘har har Mahadev’ as huge number of devotees thronged in the Shiva temples amid tight security on the first Monday of Shravan.

Krishna’s land saw thousands of devotees lined up to offer prayers to the deity. Massive crowds were witnessed at the temples of Gopeshwar Mahadev and Bankhandi in Vrindavan, Kameshwar in Kama, Nandishwar in Nandgaon, Bhuteshwar and Rangeshwar in Mathura, Chakleshwar in Govardhan.

The first Monday of Shravan, the month of monsoon, is considered one of the holiest days at all the Shiva temples. Thousands were seen in long queues to offer ‘Bel Patra’ and milk to the Lord.

The ‘Kanwariyas’, came from different parts of Vraja, lined up since early morning to offer ‘Ganga jal’ at the Shiv lingas. The devotees offered milk, honey, sandalwood paste and leaves of wood apple on ‘Shivalingas’. The district administration and voluntary organizations made elaborate arrangements for the devotees.
All the major Shiva Temples of Vraja have a relevance with the pastimes of Shri Krishna.

Devotees in large number reached the Gopeshwar Mahadev temple yesterday morning with Yamuna water, hailing Lord Shiva with the slogans of Har Har Mahadev. They offered the holy water, milk and fruits to the Lord.

During evening, the temple was decorated with flowers with a backdrop of Mount Kailash giving a feel of Lord Shiva’s abode. Temple doors were open till 10 pm to facilitate darshan for devotees, which was followed by a “Maha – Arti”.
