Vrindavan 2016.07.28 (VT): The under construction road made from cement tiles at Gaura Nagar area has already started deteriorating even before the Housing Development Board (HDB) finishes the work. The worst part is that the road doesn’t even have drainage system beside it, and the manholes connecting to sewer lines were also closed by the tiles showing lack of planning and vision.
The road from cement tiles is being made at a cost of Rs. 83.55 lacs and will stretch for 700 metres. But the poor quality and no drainage system has already attracted protest from residents of the area. As of now 200 metres of road has already been constructed, but the quality is so poor that the tyre of a tractor, that brought tiles, got stuck in it as the road got broken from its weight. HDB has also not given an provision for drains alongside the road. Even the manholes are being blocked by the tiles which will affect the sewer cleaning processes later.

Tractor stuck at the under construction Gaura Nagar road
Local residents of Gaura Nagar area are saying that the condition of rood is poor right from the beginning. The road deteriorated during early days of construction as well, and now even a tractor also got stuck in it as the road can’t sustain its weight. They also said that due to lack of drains, there are chances that the rain water will enter their houses causing further trouble to the residents. Gaura Nagar is an area of narrow lanes and poor planning from the Government will only increase the problems for the residents.
The irony is that Congress and Samajwadi Party, both are fighting among themselves to take the credit of road construction, but no one is talking about the poor quality of it. Congress MLA Pradeep Mathur inaugurated the road yesterday, when Dr. Ashok Agrawal (MLA, Samajwadi Party) has already done the inauguration two weeks back. During both the inauguration, people from contractor side were also present in the ceremony.
Vrindavan Municipal Corporation Chairman Mukesh Gautam has already written a letter to the District Magistrate Nikhil Chandra Shukla to inform him about the issue. In the letter he has mentioned about the poor quality of road, lack of drains and blocking of manholes which will create problem to the resident of Gaura Nagar as well as to the Municipal Corporation. No response has been received yet from the DM’s side.
