Vrindavan 2016.08.10 (VT): A 150-year-old tradition not allowing marriage ceremonies to be conducted inside the Banke Bihari temple was broken yesterday. The marriage took place inside the temple right in front of the altar, when the doors were closed and Thakurji was resting.
The organisers even allowed a band to play inside the temple during the time that Bihari Ji is supposed to be resting peacefully, when the sewayats don’t even make noise by ringing bells.
After an unnamed Goswami insisted on it, organisers arranged the marriage right inside the temple yesterday afternoon, when the altar doors were closed. All the rituals were conducted in front of the closed doors, amid loud playing of bands and music, breaking a centuries-old prohibition of private marriage ceremonies inside the temple.
All this continued for around three hours, but the Goswamis and temple committee members claimed to know nothing about it. The chairman of the organising committee Nand Kishor Upmanyu said that he was not informed about any such function, but the guilty parties will be disciplined.
He said that as the current status of the temple organising committee is up in the air and before the court, this matter will also have to be solved by the officiating judge. He said that it is a serious matter and the name of Goswami behind this incident will be out soon.
Temple manager Munish Sharma had switched off his cell phone as was unavailable for answering any questions from the media.
