Mathura, 2016.08.15 (Various): August 15 is India’s 70th Independence Day and celebrations take place around the country. Mathura is one of the sensitive spots where terrorist attacks are taken as a genuine possibility because of the presence of Krishna’s birthplace. Mathura city also has a large military base called Mathura cantonment.
This year, Mathura cantonment has turned into a virtual fortress after security agencies warned that terrorists may attempt an attack.
As a result security precautions have been ramped up in the whole Mathura cantonment area. Entry is subject to proper identification check. At night, the police are operating mobile check posts along with security personnel.
Over the past week armed patrols have been increased and mock security drills conducted at schools, markets etc.
After inspecting the security system in place, station commander Brigadier S B K Singh said the cantonment is ready to face any situation. “Armed patrols have been increased and the army is prepared to use hi-tech instrument to deal with any situation,” he said.
Army is using hi-tech equipment and upgraded security infrastructure to ward off any eventuality. Armoured vehicles are present and moving about in the cantonment, dog squads are also employed at entry gates. High intensity lights have been installed at all gates and the periphery of the cantonment.
